John D. Lamme, 85, of Glenford, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Morrison House in Zanesville. He was born on April 6, 1928 in Urichsville, Ohio, son of the late Emerald F. and Irene M. (Mitchell) Lamme. John was a United States Air Force Veteran, having served in Japan during the Korean War as an air traffic controller. During his time in the Air Force, he was active in many arenas. He once won a high diving competition and also best male vocalist, both A.F. competitions he had entered. He attended both OSU and Ohio Wesleyan, eventually obtaining a degree in Music. Music was Johns passion. Throughout the years he directed many local minstrels, sang with the New Life Mens Quartet, and directed the choir at Hopewell Methodist church for many years. He was also a past member of the Glenford Lions Club and served on the Glenford volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years. He was a pilot, cattle farmer, and T.V. and appliance repair technician. He and his wife, owned and operated Clark and Lamme T.V. and appliance shop for many years. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.He is survived by his loving family: wife of 64 years, Ann; son, David; daughter, Majel Lentz; three grandchildren, Daniel and Janelle Lentz and Emmie Lamme; one great-grandchild, Jaidyn Browning; 5 nieces and nephews, as well as numerous cousins and friends.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Lamme.A funeral service, celebrating Johns life, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2014 in the chapel of the Thornville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, with Pastor Beth Bateson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m.Memorial contributions in Johns name may be made to the Hopewell Twp.
