A funeral service celebrating the life of John Eugene Maharg, 77 of Newark, will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Daniel Fullen officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Tuesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, masks must be worn inside the funeral home and for your protection, a maximum of 35 guests will be allowed inside at one time. Please practice social distancing. John was born in Newark, Ohio on September 17, 1943 to the late Neilius Edward and Imogene M. (Martin) Maharg. He passed away at his residence on January 14, 2021. Prior to retirement, John was a truck driver with Redskin Trucking for many years. He was a member on the Thornville Moose Lodge and the Land of Legend Riding Club. John was an avid horseman and he especially enjoyed helping others work with their horses. He will greatly missed by everyone that knew him. Survivors include his loving wife, Lynne Martin; children, Alissa (Allan) Smail and Joseph “Shane” (Kristy Hawthorne) Maharg; step-son, Robert (Valerie) Martin; grandsons, Jacob Maharg and Andrew Maharg; step-grandson, Dalton Martin; niece, Kim Prince; and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Maharg. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of John to Foundation For Hospice of Central Ohio, PO Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058-0430. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for John and his family.
