A memorial service celebrating the life of John Allen McCabe, age 78, of Newark, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, at Providence Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 7095 Summit Road SW, Pataskala, with Pastor Stephen Dufresne officiating.
John was born November 13, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio to the late John Reynolds McCabe and the late Marion Leona (Moots) McCabe. He passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
John was a 1961 graduate of Kettering Fairmont High School. He received a Bachelor’s degree in 1965 and a Master’s degree in 1966 from Miami University. John was an art teacher and was with Vandalia schools for 3 years, Ladue, Missouri schools for 4 years and retired from Zanesville schools where he had been employed for 32 years.
John was a member of Spring Hills Baptist Church in Granville, and also attended Providence Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Pataskala. He was a published author of science fiction books from a Christian perspective. John enjoyed writing and was a science fiction collector and enthusiast. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and teacher.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Karen (Damon) McCabe, whom he married June 18, 1966; sons, Michael A. (Lili) McCabe of Columbus and Christopher A. (Alison) McCabe of Richmond, Virginia; six grandchildren, John A. McCabe, David Christopher McCabe, Grace Karen McCabe, Nora Snow McCabe, Joshua Cavan McCabe and Samuel Theodore Asher McCabe; a sister Nancy “Kathy” (Gary) Vavul of Sacramento, California; and nieces, Stacy (Gavin) Ferguson and Ashley (Wesley) Ratzlaf, all of Sacramento.
