Funeral services celebrating the life of John Allen Mohler, 73, of Englewood, Florida, will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 20, 2021 in the chapel of the Thornville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, with Clifford Mason as celebrant. John will be laid to rest near his parents in the Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville. The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until time of the funeral at 12:00 noon. John passed away November 13, 2021 at his home in Florida, following an extended illness. He was born November 16, 1947 in Columbus, the son of the late Bernard N. and Evelyn F. (Strahm) Mohler. A lifelong educator, John held degrees from Grand Valley State College and Bowling Green State University. John was an accomplished artist, volunteered and made sleeping mats for the homeless through CHAPS charity in Florida. He also worked tirelessly collecting food for this charity. He enjoyed gambling and was very lucky with his winnings. He loved to travel, take cruises including his bucket list cruise to the Greek Islands and Italy. He retired to Florida, where he enjoyed long walks on the beach, collecting sea glass, and watching sunsets. John is survived by his husband Steve Doublestein, with whom he was fortunate to share 39 years of his life. They were married in 2013 in Lewes, Delaware. In addition to Steve, John is survived by daughter Michele (Rich) Rogers and her children Michael (Kaleigh) Mohler, (their children Aiden, Kenzley and Brynnlee); Zachary Welter and Emma Sowers; his brother is Jerry (Jenny) Mohler and their children Josh (Stacey) Mohler and their children Addisyn, Kinslee, Jaxson; Julie (Jon) Spohn and their children Tyler, Hayden and Treyson. John was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Evelyn Mohler. John and Steve have enjoyed their fur kids over the years: Duncan, Buster, Maddie, Aishling, Justin and Honey. The family prefers that memorial contributions be directed to the Perry County Cancer Alliance or to CHAPS. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
