John R. Mumaw

A funeral service for John Russell Mumaw, age 70, of Newark, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday March 4, at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church, 67 North Fifth Street, Newark, with the Rev. William J. Rauch officiating. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Granville. John was born November 6, 1943 in Dalton, Ohio to the late Robert E. and Roena M. (Buchwalter) Mumaw. He passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at his home.John was a 1961 graduate of Dalton High School. A graduate of The Ohio State University, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1966, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and a Master of Science degree in 1968, graduating Cum Laude. John was employed as a Research Engineer with the Owens Corning Tech. Center in Granville for 38 years. Following his retirement, he did consulting work in Building Science for several years. Professionally, John was a Registered Professional Engineer and was a member of the American Society of Testing Materials and the National Fenestration Rating Council where he served as chairman of the board of directors and was chair of the lab accreditation committee. In 1973, John was a member of the group that designed the insulation for the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline. John was a faithful member of St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newark for 45 years where he sang in the choir. He served three terms on the church council and taught high school and adult Sunday School classes. John was an excellent woodworker and made many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family, including all of his grandchildren. John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol L. (Leitch) Mumaw, whom he married September 18, 1965; and by three children, Michael John (Tricia) Mumaw of Powell, Susan Diane (Jeff) Enderle of Dublin and Matthew Alan (Jill) Mumaw of Blacklick; five grandchildren, Jadin Mumaw, Sydney and William Enderle and Connor and Samuel Mumaw; step-grandchildren, Erin and Collier Stambaugh; a step-great-grandson, Talin Stambaugh; two sisters, Mary Louise (Barry) Callesen of Tucson, AZ and Ruth Ann (Dan) Cummings of Portsmouth, VA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gregory (Wendy) Leitch of Reynoldsburg, William D. (Ronda) Leitch of Warren and Pamela (Bob) Evanich of Scottstown; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Myron J. & Carolyn Mumaw. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, March 3, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.
