A funeral service celebrating the life of John A. Ross, 74 of Newark, will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Cory Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. John was born in Newark, Ohio on April 24, 1949 to the late Albert Alonzo and Cora Lee (Baker) Ross. He passed away on July 13, 2023 at Pataskala Oaks Care Center. John proudly served his country in the United State Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Prior to retirement, he was a postal carrier with the US Postal Service for over 20 years. He was a former member of the VFW in Newark and Zanesville. He enjoyed fishing, working on bicycles and cars, but most importantly was the time he spent with his loving family and friends. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Amy K. and Richard Carson; grandchildren, Ashley and Reece Carson; step-son, Michael Bendure; sisters, Ruth Dugan and Mary Ford; special niece, Teresa Lemley; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-son, Allen Bendure; and brother, George Ross.
