John Ray Smith

John Ray Smith, age 79, of Newark, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio).

John was born June 21, 1945 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Damien and Esther (Stevens) Smith. He was a carpenter for many years and enjoyed woodworking and made many beautiful items for his family. John enjoyed fishing, working outside, and gardening. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed collecting trains.

John is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ann (Kropp) Smith; children, Lisa M. (Dave) Smith Duncan of Adamsville and Shawn E. (Lisa) Smith of Fort Thomas, Kentucky; step-children, Timothy A. (Jennifer) Mahnke of Worthington, Lisa A. Goodman (Randy Swingle) of Deland, Florida, and Tim L. (Bryan) Doran of Etna; grandchildren, Brooke Howard of Augusta, Georgia, Justin Duncan of Grove City, Ellie Smith of Cincinnati, Braxton Smith of Logan, Madilynn (Luke) Grace of Mason, Kelton Smith and Kalissa Smith, both of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, Virginia Jones and Allie Goodman, both of Hilliard, Lily (Jake) Ferrier and Faith (Ray) Delgado of Worthington, Oliver (Katie) Mahnke of Kent, and AJ, Wes, and Ciera Doran of Etna; great-grandchildren, Adeline, Calvin, Theo, and Maddy; brothers-in-law, John (Karen) Kropp of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Jim (Karen) Kropp of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, and Kenny Kropp of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Ginger L. Howard.

The family will observe a private celebration of John’s life at a later date.
