**Obituary for John Jay Spence**
**June 26, 1966 – April 7, 2025**
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Jay Spence, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us on Monday, April 7th, 2025, at the age of 58. John was a long-time resident of Glenford, Ohio, and was born in Columbus, Ohio, on June 26, 1966.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Patricia (Grodhaus) Spence, whom he married on June 6, 1987. He leaves behind cherished memories with his daughter, Shelby (Kevin) Lucas, and his beloved grandson, Henry J. Lucas. He is also survived by his sister, Katrina Russell, and her children, Michael and Krystal, as well as his great-niece Autumn. His family circle further extends to his sister-in-law, Melissa Grodhaus, and her partner, Victor Thompson, and their son Brody.
Preceding John in death were his loving parents, Richard and Nancy Spence, and his son, Dustin Spence, who passed away in 2019.
A graduate of Licking Heights Schools, John was a dedicated painter with Westerman's in Bremen, Ohio. His career also included 24 years at Ours Towing in Hebron, where he was a respected certified Wreck Master Instructor. Outside of work, John had a passion for demolition derby driving and was an avid fisherman, often spending weekends at the local lakes.
Visitation will be held at Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Services in Thornville, Ohio, on Friday, April 11th, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and again from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 12th, 2025, at 10:30 am, also at Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Services. Following the service, John will be laid to rest in Highland Cemetery, Glenford.
John's life was a testament to hard work, love, and perseverance. His presence in the community and his devotion to his family will be profoundly missed.
