John W. Gillogly

John Wallace Gillogly, 72, of Thornville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 15, 2013, in Seattle, Wash. He was born on Aug. 2, 1940, in Pennsville to the late Wallace and Leona (Rowland) Gillogly. Having been raised in Logan, John graduated from Logan High School with the class of 1958. He attended Ohio State University and was a graduate of the Ohio School of Banking and the Ohio School for Loan Officers. John had a long career spanning 30 years in the banking industry in both Hocking and Perry counties. One of his proudest accomplishments was designing, developing and establishing the Diamond Savings and Loan Bank in Logan. He also operated a very large farm and raised cattle on property in Hocking County.An innovator and visionary at heart, John designed and built Coops Corner, a convenience store in Thornville. As the years passed, this establishment became more than a fuel service station, it became a gathering place for many in the community. For this, John was most proud.In addition to his other accomplishments, John also served for six years with the Ohio National Guard. Most recently in 2012, he was given the honor of being the Grand Marshal for the Thornville Independence Day Parade. John enjoyed fishing at Lake Erie, the beach at Puerto Rico, gardening, boating, traveling, but most of all, spending time with his family.He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Judge Luann Cooperrider, whom he married on May 4, 1991; his son, Cooper John Gillogly, whom John said, made his life complete. John is proud that he loved and raised his five girls, Kathy Ricketts, Paige Gillogly, Jacqi (Brian) Stobbs, Jennifer (Shayne) Dicken and Johna (Ron) Walker; 10 grandchildren; four sisters: Odessa Wilkey, Martha Lisznyai, Mary Lou (John) Brimner and Ruth Ann Roach; as well as his lifelong friend, Wendell Hull.A memorial service celebrating Johns life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church, 65 East Columbus Street, Thornville, 43076 with Pastors David Zandt and Beth Bateson and the Rev. Doug Lynn officiating.The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to services from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Thornville Food Pantry, C/O Julia Cooperrider, P.O.
