A memorial service celebrating the life of Joseph Bradford Joe Dooley, age 82, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Fugate officiating. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 31, at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.Joe was born September 30, 1932 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Dr. Ralph Dean and Jessie Maude (Shannon) Dooley. A graduate of Oakwood High School, Joe also attended the University of South Carolina and the Citadel. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Joe was the former owner of Shamrock Printing, Dooleys Diner, Dooleys Restaurant and the Draft House.Joe was a devoted husband, father and friend who touched many lives. He was deeply loved by all who knew him. Joe enjoyed blogging, telling stories and being quite the jokester.He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marilyn Sue (Courson) Dooley; daughters, Debra (Lisa Bozydaj) Dooley of New York and Melissa Mel Dooley of Newark; sons, Dean (Robbin) Dooley of New Jersey and Joseph Bradford Brad (Bernadette) Dooley II of North Carolina; step-son, Dennis (Marty Podlich) Dunaway of Newark; former son-in-law, Robin Dunlap of Newark; grandchildren, Amanda (Austin Dilts) Dunlap, Brandon Dunlap, Zach Dooley, Ashley Dooley, Jamie (Steve) Thompson, Derrick (Brittany) Dunaway; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Dilts, Emma Dilts, Hunter Thompson, Kaitlyn Thompson and Damian Dunaway; nieces, Jane Dooley, Kyle Kinder and Meredith Muzykoski; nephews, Kevin Dooley and Granger Goodman; great-niece, Rebecca Kinder; great-nephew, Andrew Kinder; cousin, Merrill Dean Dooley dear friends, Craig Young and Ronnie Schlosser; and his dog, Caleb.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Priscilla Dooley; brother and sister-in-law, Dean Bud (Rebecca Becky Rue) Dooley; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce (Gary) Goodman; and brother-in-law, Ron Courson.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for Joe and his family.
