Joseph "Joe" James Kerntz

Joe Kerntz of Newark, Ohio passed away on December 17th 2015 at The James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Joe was born in Winton, MN. on December 17th, 1953. He graduated Park Hill High in Kansas City, Mo. in 1971. He attended the University of Missouri Kansas City, where he played basketball. Following college he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Joe leaves behind his beloved wife Dezra Kerntz, of thirty years, and survived by his Daughter Kristen Ann Kerntz, son Justin Kerntz, future son-in-law Jeremy Johnson and granddaughter Raegan Michelle Johnson of Newark, Ohio, Sisters Deborah Johnston, of Junction City, KS. and Donna Kerntz of Ormond Beach, FL. and special nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Ann Schriock, and father Gary Fairfield.Joe always enjoyed quality time with his family. His favorite place to be was on the deck manning the grill, or preparing Sunday breakfasts for his family. He loved being a part of his children's sporting events. Cheering them on as they ran track through high school and college. His passion for his family was evident in his commitment to never miss a single event.Joe enjoyed a long and successful career opening Restaurants and serving the patrons and people he worked with. His quick wit, contagious enthusiasm, and optimism inspired all those around him. His dedication and commitment is unsurpassed.There will be a private mass service for the family.
