Joseph Schumacher

October 2, 1940 — January 22, 2016

Joseph Harley Schumacher went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on January 22, 2016 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital after a long illness.He was born October 3, 1940 in Maddock, North Dakota, the son of Vernon (step-mother Betty) Schumacher of Columbus. He was a graduate of Canal Winchester High School, class of 1958. He served honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam era, on the USS Herbert J. Thomas, destroyer. He participated in raising the first US Flag over Alaska in 1959. He continued his service to his country in the Naval Reserve from 1961-1964.Joes trade was the automotive business from management to service director to sales to the owner of his own business.He was a member of First Community Church of Buckeye Lake, he loved his church family especially his pastors Kevin Blade, David Moody and John Wick.He was an avid fisherman and OSU buckeye fan.He is survived by his family wife Sharon, whom he married on October 28, 1989, his daughter Mollie Lynn Schumacher, siblings Tina Swonger of Portland, TN., Charles (Diane) Franklin of Roundlake, IL., and Tonda (Dennis) Meadows of Reynoldsburg; father-in-law Arthur E. Lewis Sr., brothers-in-law Arthur E(Linda) Lewis Jr., Jeffrey S, (Donna) Lewis and sister-in-law Susan L. Mueller; many nieces and nephews; friends Jamey Hankison and Adam Hughes, Neighbors The Swisher Family and his church family at First Community Church at Buckeye Lake.He was preceded in death by his mother Bettie Jo (Moorehead) Schumacher.Joes family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at the Kirkersville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, 285 E. Main St. in Kirkersville, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the First Community Church of Buckeye Lake, 4381 Walnut Rd. S.E., Buckeye Lake, 43008. Pastor John Wick will officiate.Burial with full military honors will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Columbus.Joe will be sadly missed by all.
