Joseph Samuel Tinsley, 92, of Thornville, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on October 7, 1921 in Greenup Co., Kentucky, son of the late Edward and viola (Veach) Tinsley. Joseph proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. A paratrooper with the 101st Airborne, he parachuted into Italy, France, and Germany. In fact, he was in Bourgeois Garden (Hitlers headquarters) when Germany surrendered. He was also a recipient of the Purple Heart.Joe retired from Rockwell international as a machinist, and enjoyed motorcycles, fishing, auctions, and gardening.He is survived by his loving family: Daughter, Lisa (Mike) Shankle; son, Edward H. Tinsley; grandchildren, Aaron (Anita Dominguez), Joseph and Jennifer Robin Maddux; sister, Mary Clark; niece, Carol Huber; nephew, Walter (Madeline) Clark; as well as his beloved dog, Bandit.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet in 2003; and brothers, Edward and Marion Tinsley.A funeral service, celebrating Joes life, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014 in the chapel of the Thornville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, 56 S. Main St., with Pastor Jeremy Shank officiating.
