A homegoing service for Joyce M. Pollard, age 67, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street in Newark. Burial will take place in Machpelahs Burial Acres located at 45269 Township Road 28 in Bethlehem Township, Ohio (Coshocton County).

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, June 9, at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street in Newark.

Joyce was born June 4, 1955 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late William Leslie and Ethel Flazell (Coleman) Scott. She passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023 at the Laurels of Heath.

Joyce retired from Time Warner Cable where she was a customer service representative. She was a member of the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob in Coshocton. Joyce was a published author and wrote short stories and poetry centered around her family. An excellent athlete, she won awards in Track and was selected to carry the torch for the 1972 Olympics through Compton, California. Joyce loved music of all kinds and especially enjoyed listening to the Beatles and the Police. She was clever, quick witted, and loved to learn about history, specifically the Civil War. Joyce had a sparkling smile and a gregarious nature. Her family meant the world to her and she enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandkids.

She is survived by three daughters, Shani Avery-Scott (Tiffany Suzanne Avery-Scott) of Aurora, Illinois, Esther Marie Pollard of Columbus, and Pamela Mercedes Pollard of Manassas, Virginia; grandchildren, Baxter Avery-Scott,  Shawnica Amison, Ashley Amison, Alex Amison, Jasmine Amison, Katiana Sanchez, Alejandra Sanchez, and Kyssa Pollard; great-grandchild, Amari Amison; sisters, Ruth Montgomery of Anderson, Indiana, and Jewel Scott of Newark; and brother, David Scott of Coshocton; niece, Sheila Abercrombie (Felicia Abercrombie) and many other nieces and nephews, and great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Abinadab Scott, Judith Dryer, Jerusha Broughton, Jacob Scott, and William Scott.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nation Multiple Sclerosis Society – Buckeye Chapter, 651-G Lakeview Plaza Blvd., Worthington, OH 43085.
