Julian Ray "Soup" Dornon

Funeral services, celebrating the life of Julian Ray “Soup” Dornon, 94, of Thornville, will be held on Thursday April 1, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of The Thornville home of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, with Pastor Paul Hansen as celebrant. He will be inurned with full military honors at a later date in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jacksontown. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 56 South Main St. in Thornville. Due to COVID 19 masks must be worn in the funeral home and a limit of 35 persons inside the funeral home at one time will be enforced.

Soup passed away early Monday morning, March 29, 2021 at his home in Thornville. He was born in Mt. Alto, West Virginia on March 15, 1927, the son the late Ted R. and Freda (Casto) Dornon. He served honorably in the US Army Air Corp during the Korean conflict and retired after a long career with American Freight Systems. Soup was very active on the Thorn Township Zoning board for many years.

He is survived by his family: daughter Tonya (John) Shepard, son Steve (Kim) Dornon; grandchildren Jennifer (Ashley) Bussey, Josh (Alex) Shepard and Ashley Sherman; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; his brother Bill (Penny) Dornon; and sisters in law Sarah and Barb Dornon.

In addition to his parents and wife Marvel, who preceded him in death on April 24, 2017; Soup was preceded in death by his sister Helen Hiles, brothers Bob, Fred, Roger, and Larry Dornon.

The family would like to thank granddaughter Jennifer (Ashley) Bussey for their loving care of Soup these last six months. They moved into his home to care for him so that he might remain there.
