A funeral service, celebrating the life of Karl Vernon Jones, 88, of Gratiot, will be held Thursday, February 2, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of The Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service, Kirkersville, with Pastors Matt Blau and Brian Harkness as celebrants. Burial with full military honors will follow at Poplar Fork Cemetery in Gratiot.Karl died suddenly, Sunday, January 29, 2012 in Zanesville. He was born June 12, 1923 in Brownsville, Ohio, the son of the late Guy and Lettie (Loughman) Jones. He was a 1941 graduate of Hopewell H.S., and served honorably in the US Army.He retired as bookkeeper for the Bill Black Ford company in Mt. Vernon, after spending many years as bookkeeper at Sheckerd Motors in Brownsville. Following retirement, he worked for the Mock Woodworking Company in Zanesville. An active member of the Gratiot community, Karl worked tirelessly for the National Trail V.F.D., where he was a founding member.He also belonged to the Hopewell Post of the American Legion, and attended both Gratiot and Brownsville U.M. Church.He is survived by his loving family: his daughters Cindy McDonough and Karla Jones of Gratiot, Marla (Brian) Anders of Blue Rock, Bev(Jim) Bright of Nashport; grandchildren Kari (Shawn) Wilson, Heather (Chuck) Yontz, Amy Fountain, Mandy McDonough, Travis Kelly, Abbey Fountain, Andrea Fountain, Andrew (Trenda) Jones; great grandchildren Trey, Madison, Avery, Ashley, Wyatt, Makenna; and several nieces and nephews; along with his friend and companion Geneva Dement of Brownsville.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, who died in 1991; and his brother Frank Jones, and sisters Mary Watts, Grace Bowers, and Wilma Leonard.His family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Kirkersville home of The Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, 285 E Main St in Kirkersville, where an on-line guest register and video tributes are available to Karl at www.hoskinsonfuneral.comMemorials may be directed to the National Trail Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box Gratiot, Ohio 43740.HOSKINSON Funeral & Cremation Service, Kirkersville, is honored to care for the Jones family.
