Katarina Brilyn "Kat" Matamoros

A funeral service celebrating the life of Katarina Brilyn “Kat” Matamoros, age 14, of Newark, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen and Pastor Kae Merold officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street in Newark.

Katarina was born October 31, 2004 in Newark, Ohio. She passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at her home.

Kat was an 8 ^th grader at Wilson Middle School. She was loved by all who knew her and enjoyed spending time with her friends. Kat was very artistic and enjoyed drawing. She was very much a caregiver and loved to help take care of her little brother.

She is survived by her mother and step-father, Fabiana Carolina Matamoros and Scott Fate; biological father, Phil Gayheart; brother, Demetri Fate and several other siblings; maternal grandparents, Audrey and Rob Murray; aunt, Stephanie Murray; uncles, Tim Murray and Christopher Fate; great-uncles, Dennis Rankin and Wolfgang Salazar; best friend, Samara Lupton; and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
