Funeral services, celebrating the life of Kermit H. Mick, 86, of Thornville, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 in the Thornville United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeremy Shank as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville.Kermit died peacefully at the Pickering House Monday, December 4, 2017. He was born in Burnsville, W.V. on July 24, 1931 to the late Walter and Edith (Moore) Mick.Kermit graduated from Burnsville High School in 1949 and served in the US Navy for four years before graduating from Glenville State College where he met his future wife of 60 years, Virginia, while earning a degree in education. They were married August 30, 1957. Kermit and Virginia raised two sons. After four years of teaching at Gallia Academy in Gallipolis, Ohio, he retired from the Ohio Department of Health in 1988.In their retirement Kermit and Virginia traveled the United States and Canada in their camper and enjoyed many years in Florida surf fishing and making friends. Kermit was a member of the Thornville United Methodist Church.In addition to his wife Virginia, he is survived by their two children: Walter (JoLynn) Mick and Marc (Kristina) Mick; eight grandchildren: Adam (Jessica) Mick, Katelyn (Hayden) Painter, Andrea Mick, Kendyl Mick, Kyle Mick, Rachel Mick, Katie and Zane Kenney; along with sister-in-law Ginger Mick.In addition to his parents, Kermit was preceded in death by siblings: Freda, William Stanley, Wayne, Randal, Joe, Mary Azalea, William Lawrence, and Walter.The Mick Family offers special thanks to all the kind, attentive and nurturing people from the Pickering House. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Kermit to FairHoPe Hospice Pickering House, 282 Sells Rd., Lancaster, Ohio 43130.The family will receive friends on Friday, December 8, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Thornville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, 56 South Main Street in Thornville; and again on Saturday Morning from 10:30 a.m. until time of the services at the Thornville United Methodist Church.HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, Thornville, is honored to care for Kermit and his family.
