He attended Olentangy High School class of 1971, but graduated early in 1970. After high school, he took a job at Chemical Abstract Services where he advanced his career and retired after 35 years of service. Lanny was involved with many bands throughout his life from high school garage bands through the ‘80’s and ‘90’s playing in bars and basements where he played guitar and mixed music on the soundboards. Lanny had a love of drag racing that started from watching his brother race in the 1970s and included many years of attending the Spring Nationals at National Trail Raceway in Kirkersville, Ohio and the US Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana. He developed a love of NASA and space after watching the Lunar landing on television in 1969 and was lucky enough to attend the final launch of the Shuttle program in 2011. He also enjoyed trains and took his grandchildren on several rides on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway and Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad even enjoying a ride on an old steam engine. This love of trains prompted many vacations to a small town called Folkston, Georgia that ultimately captured a piece of his heart and he and his wife Gayle built their forever home along the tracks. Through all of these interests, he met many great people and developed wonderful friendships.
