Lawrence "Larry" Holbert

A funeral service, celebrating the life of Lawrence W. Larry Holbert, age 63, of Newark, will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Raymond Hale officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, two hours prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Larry was born in Newark on October 30, 1953 to Woodrow Holbert of Newark and the late Mary Elizabeth (Carlisle) Holbert. He passed away on March 2, 2017 at Licking Memorial Hospital. Larry graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelors of Science Degree. He was a dedicated worker for the Ohio Department of Health for 35 years. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and watching sporting events, especially boxing. Most important in life was spending time with his family, visiting his father on Sundays, and doting on his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his father, survivors include his loving daughter, Shannon Holbert; step-daughters, Deborah (Roy) Miller and Sherri Hersman; grandchildren, Misty and Dakota; great grandchildren, Hayden and Bently; and a host of other family members and friends. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Goodin) Holbert, in 2016; and sister, Sherrill Holbert. The family would like to thank Licking Memorial Hospital for the great care that was provided to Larry.
