Leota Mae Van Winkle

Leota Mae Van Winkle, age 80, of Pataskala, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the Laurels of Gahanna. Leota was born May 13, 1940 in Pataskala, Ohio to the late Jesse S. and Sema Luella (Hite) Warner.

Leota was a bookkeeper and over the years had been employed with Motorists Mutual, Western Electric, Columbus Dental and Werner-Theado. Leota was an active member of Outville Presbyterian Church and was a great ambassador for the church. She was a wonderful cook and served many delicious potluck meals at the church. She also prepared funeral meals at the church and cooked once a month for the homeless shelter in Columbus. Leota enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, making wedding cakes for friends, listening to Jazz music and loved to ballroom dance.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Ronald Charles Van Winkle, whom she married December 9, 2006; daughter, Tina (Bill) McCurry of Melbourne, Florida; grandchildren, Jacob Sims and several other grandchildren; step-children, Amy Jo Van Winkle, Jud Van Winkle, Robyn (Charlie) Krouse, Brian Penn, Tina Lephart and several other step-children; sister, Phyllis Welch of Granville; sister-in-law, Barb Warner of Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Galen Warner and brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Charlotte Warner.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, January 29, at the Kirkersville Chapel of Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service. Due to Covid-19 concerns, masks must be worn inside the funeral home and please practice social distancing.

The family will observe a private funeral service with Pastor Kae Merold officiating. Leota will be laid to rest in Kirkersville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Outville Presbyterian Church or to Heartland Hospice.
