Lucien Antoine "Lou" Mouawad

Lucien Antoine “Lou” Mouawad, age 84, of Newark, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at his home. Lou was born September 19, 1933 in Khartoum, Sudan to the late Pierre Antoine and Artemis (Hovnanian) Mouawad. Growing up he and his family also lived for a time in Egypt.

Lou received a Masters of Engineering degree from Loughborough University in England. He emigrated to Canada where he was the owner of Monetex, Inc. in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada and was a Mechanical and Environmental Engineer. He moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1987, where he became a naturalized citizen, and to Newark in 2004.  Following his retirement, he applied his engineering expertise to wood-working, creating wonderful pieces of furniture, though he occasionally continued to consult professionally.  Lou attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Newark. His passion was music and he enjoyed playing the piano. He was very proud of his French, Lebanese and Armenian heritage and spoke seven languages.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sally Ann (Winters) Mouawad; sons, Mark Anthony Mowad (Wendy Montgomery) of Providence, Rhode Island and Eric Lucien Mouawad (Leah Augustine) of Vancouver, British Columbia; step-sons, Thomas Howard (Karen Louise) Musson of Granville and Charles Robert (Sandra) Musson of Hollis, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Jordan Mowad, Nyla Mouawad, Camille, Heather, Ciara and Samantha Musson; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Mouawad.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
