Lucy (Harris) Ford Morrow
Lucy Morrow, 103, of Columbus, died at home, September 29, 2020 surrounded by her loved ones.
Lucy, the first daughter and second child of twelve to James Harvey and Emma Catherine (Barton) Harris, was born in Buchanan County Venia (now known as Honaker), Virginia on April 15, 1917.
Surviving are loving children and spouses: Harold (Peggy) Ford of Granville, Margaret Bevard of Columbus, and Ethel (John) Thomas of Kirkersville; 20 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Caring brothers and sisters: Robert (Rachel) Harris of Frazeysburg, Bertha Neece of Granville, Maxie Downing of Kingsport TN., Viola Owens of Johnstown, and Shirley O’Quinn of Honaker, VA. As well as many loved nieces and nephews.
At a very early age she learned to work hard doing chores on the farm. While young, she developed a passion for cooking and caring for family. She married Charles E. Ford in 1934 and moved to Ohio. She lived in Kirkersville or the Columbus area during her adult life. She raised her six children during hard times of 1935-1962. Lucy worked at Ray’s Truck Stop in Kirkersville, Ma and Pa’s restaurant in Wagram and self-employed house cleaning. She married Mark W. Morrow in 1962. She was a dedicated wife and homemaker. He was the love of her life. They shared 47 wonderful years together. Even at the age of 90, Lucy was at his bedside day and night the last days of his life.
Activities that brought her joy included family reunions, hosting family holiday gatherings, family camping, traveling, gardening flowers and vegetables, canning and freezing food, cooking and baking, reading, word puzzles, caring for her pets, quilting or sewing, bingo, watching soap operas or playing card games. She loved garage sales and always appreciated a good bargain. She planned and cooked for the Harris Family reunions for 60 consecutive years. Her famous apple pies, noodles and fried chicken were loved by all. She was able to drive until 2008. At 103 years of age, her health was in good condition and she lived by herself in the home she loved for nearly 50 years.
Many great inventions and discoveries happened during her life time. Family time was most important to her. She often said, “I have seen and heard a lot in my life, but love and support from family have helped carry me along life’s journey.”
Lucy was a beloved daughter, sis, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She devoted her life to providing care and unconditional love for her children and grandchildren. She was the foundation and rock of her family.
She is preceded in death by other loved ones, husband Mark W. Morrow, parents James and Emma Harris, sons James E Ford, Arthur Lee Ford, daughter Louise Bartlett, granddaughter Pamela Morgan, brothers Troy Harris, Taze Harris, Dexter Harris, Gus Harris, sisters Mary Terrell and Ruby Harris.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, visitation and funeral will be immediate family with Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service of Kirkersville providing care for Lucy and her family. Lucy will be buried by her husband in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Lancaster.
