Luisa M. Hanwell

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Luisa M. Hanwell, 67, of Utica, will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Newark, with Father David Sizemore as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, where a Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Luisa was born in Caracas, Venezuela on June 22, 1957 to the late Aquiles and Marie Luisa (Dib) Mendez. She passed away at her residence while surrounded by her loving family, on July 9, 2024. Prior to retirement, Luisa was a licensed mortgage underwriter with Chase Bank for many years. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where she was active in the Upper Room and her weekly Adoration. Luisa loved saying the Rosary and was dedicated to her Lord. She enjoyed cooking, baking, going to the beach and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by everyone that knew her. Survivors include her loving husband of 47 years, Ronald D. Hanwell, whom she married June 18, 1977; daughter, Jennifer M. (Joel) Tuttle; son, Ronald David (Katie) Hanwell; grandchildren, Jacob (Caroline), Michael, Kaylee, Isaac, Annie, William, Benjamin and Joseph Tuttle, and Jackson Wallace Hanwell; brother, Aquiles (Elizabeth) Mendez; sisters, Maria Luisa (George) Lau, Maria Elena (Victor) Escobar, Beatriz Mendez and Mercedes Mendez; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
