Margaret S. Bennett, age 98, of Alexandria, passed away on December 1, 2014 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center in Newark, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. She was born in Alexandria, Ohio on January 5, 1916 to the late Lewis and Verne (Preston) Scott. Margaret was a graduate of Alexandria High School. Upon returning to Ohio after WWII, she and her husband owned Bennetts General Store in Alexandria. They were both excellent golfers. Margaret was also a Red Cross swimming instructor and a popular Girl Scout Leader. In 1964, by Presidential Appointment, she became the Postmaster of Alexandria until her retirement in 1982. She was a loving and beloved mother, grandmother and aunt. She will be remembered for her pleasant manner, quiet generosity and kind acts.She is survived by her son, Douglas L. Bennett; grandson, Ian S. Bennett; granddaughter, Remy Bennett; nieces, Debbie Scott and Cindy Johnston.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore F. Bennett; sister, Dorotha S. Romei; and brother, Hale P. Scott.Arrangements are entrusted to Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, Newark.
