A graveside funeral service celebrating the life of Marianne McConnell, 68 of Newark, will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Reecior Puryear officiating. Marianne was born in Newark, Ohio on March 29, 1954 to the late Samuel and Alice Perrin. She passed away at Licking Memorial Hospital on November 10, 2022. Marianne was a member of the Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies Church in Columbus. She was also a member of the Pride of Moundbuilders Temple #551, an auxiliary of Improved Benevolent Protective of Elks of the World. She served in many capacities on the local, district and state levels. Marianne was faithful, dependable and always willing to help in any way she could. She was the founding member of the Freedom School in Licking County, and also worked hard to improve the neighborhoods in East Newark, mainly getting sidewalks and where there was a need. She enjoyed reading mysteries, working the polls, teaching computer skills at Conrad Elementary, and watching NCIS, Law and Order and Soaps on TV. Survivors include a daughter, Lenice McConnell; former husband, Leonard McConnell; sisters, Elizabeth Adria Weathington and Saundra (William) Gilkes; brother, Samuel (Pauline) Perrin, II; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Perrin; and nephew, William Gilkes. The family would like to thank the emergency room and ICU staff at Licking Memorial Hospital for all of the excellent care that was provided to Marianne during her stay.
