A funeral service celebrating the life of Marie M. Weekley, age 91, of Newark, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Kirkersville Cemetery. Marie was born July 1, 1923 in Glenford, Ohio to the late Mark and Daisy (Ice) Smith. She passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family. Marie was formerly employed by Pharis Tire and Rubber and retired from St. Regis. She was a member of the Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church. Marie enjoyed, crocheting, playing basketball and softball and had been in a travel bowling league. She was an avid fan of the OSU Buckeyes, especially the basketball team.She is survived by her husband of 67 years, William L. Weekley, whom she married May 15, 1948; a daughter, Jackey (Tom) Showman of Thornville; a granddaughter, Lori (Eric) Uhl of Reynoldsburg; great-grandchildren, Jared and Alex Uhl; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Showman and Scott (Tammy) Showman; step-great-grandchildren, Jeseka Showman, Alexus Showman and Dakota Showman; sisters and brothers, Pearl Rich of Thornville, Dana Smith of Florida, Mona Belle Able of Florida, Clifford Smith of Missouri, Doris Brown of Newark, Lawrence Smith of Granville, Betty Madinger of Zanesville and Margaret McMullen of Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Toby Bond; and by brothers, Don Smith, Maurice Smith and Harold Smith; and a sister, Eileen Hawkins.Memorial contributions may be made to a college fund for Maries great-grandsons, Jared and Alex Uhl. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for the Weekley family.
