Martha Frances Trace

July 2, 1939 — June 22, 2022

A graveside service honoring the life of Martha Francis Trace, age 82, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27, at Smith Chapel Cemetery with Larry Webb officiating. Family and friends may call from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street in Newark. We will go in procession from the funeral home to the cemetery for those that wish to do so.

Martha was born July 2, 1939 in Braxton, West Virginia to the late Harmon O. and Louisa E. (Fisher) Ware. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 22, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Martha and George met on a blind date at the Buckeye Lake amusement park. She was wearing a green silky dress and it was love at "first sight". They married on August 13, 1957 on George's 18th birthday and were married for 66 years.

Martha worked as a deli manager at Apple Valley Cardinal in Hanover and was also as a rag cutter at Components in Hanover back in her prime years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking for everyone that came over, watching Lifetime and Hallmark movies, doing word search puzzles, going to Goodwill, and eating Chinese food. She was always there to fill your belly, even when you weren't hungry, and there to tell you her opinion about anything and everything, whether you wanted to hear it or not. Her famous quote started with, "What you need to do is...".

She is survived in life by her loving husband of 66 years, George Trace; daughter, Shelby (Larry) Webb, daughter, Christine Trace, son, Howard Trace. She is also survived by her brothers, Howard Ware, Bumbee (Harold) Ware, and Glenn Ware. She was a grandmother to eight grandchildren, Jason (Miranda) Trace, Jessie Webb, Jenadee (Michelle) Webb, Jaimie (Chadd) Byer, Adam (Hannah) Davis, Damien Trace, Brittney Trace and Jessica (Tyler) Trace; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Fanny Skidmore; and her brothers, Earl Ware, Brandt (Buzz) Ware, and Jim Ware.
