Ed Selby

April 22, 1953 — October 8, 2021

Marvin Edward Selby (Ed) passed suddenly at his home on Friday, October 8, 2021. He was 68 years old. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of many people.

Ed was born April 22, 1953 in Sciotoville Ohio. He graduated from Portsmouth East High School in 1971, and promptly embarked on a life filled with many travels, adventures and friends.

He is survived by his children Wayne (Nancy) Kaiser of Pensacola Florida, Kristen (Fred) Brothers of Columbus Ohio and Dustin Selby of Columbus Ohio and his loving and devoted grandchildren Marianna (Patrick) Floyd, Alex Brothers, Ian Kaiser, Katie Brothers, Nick Brothers, Kaleb Kaiser, Samantha Kaiser, Ayden Taghvai, Maya Taghvai and several great-grandchildren.

Ed is also survived by his sister Sharon and brother-in-law and best friend, Lewis White, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his much-loved wife Shirley, parents Marvin and Betty Selby, and his loving sister Janice Porter.

Ed was a kind, gentle, caring, funny man. He loved animals, and included among his friends the hummingbirds and deer that visited him at his house each day.

A human life is a collection of stories and experiences, and Ed’s life was colorful, interesting, well-lived and well-loved. He was a gifted storyteller, and had many stories about his interesting life that ranged from being an extra in movies out West, riding bulls in the rodeo, and jumping off a really high railroad bridge in Sciotoville into the Ohio river.

He spent a little time in the US Army as a paratrooper trainee jumping out of planes, which was the reason he steadfastly refused to fly anywhere in his later years…

Ed’s stories, experiences, family and friends defined him. Ed loved fishing, treasure hunting, working with his hands building and fixing houses, cars, engines, and air conditioners. He loved nature and animals, but loved most of all to spend time with his family and friends.

At Ed’s request, there will be no funeral service because he would have hated that. Instead, a memorial service and celebration of Ed’s interesting and colorful life will be planned for a later date, and his family, friends and loved ones will be asked to attend
