A memorial service, to celebrate the life of Mary Bell Cowen, age 70 of Newark, will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Shoemaker officiating.Mary was born in Newark, Ohio on October 20, 1943 to the late Howard and Mary (Ritchey) Neibarger. She passed away on July 2, 2014 at Arlington Nursing Home in Newark.Mary graduated in 1961 from Licking Valley High School. She was a social aid with the Salvation Army for 21 years. She was a member of the Salvation Army in Newark; Conrad Elementary School PTA and was a den mother for Cub Scout Troup #79. She also enjoyed knitting, reading and was an avid Cleveland sports fan.Survivors include her three sons, Neil (Teena Stambaugh) Cowen of Coolville, Ohio, Ray (Bobbie Watts) Cowen of Newark and Curtis Cowen of Newark; daughter, Captain Tawny L. (Kevin) Cowen-Zanders of Toledo; sister, Sandra K. (Doug) Adams of Zanesville; special friend, George E. Cayton; grandchildren, Charles N. Cowen, Jessica T. Cowen, DeSean Watts, Avery Lee Cowen, Masion Evans, Zoe Cowen-Zanders and Kaleb Cowen-Zanders; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her spouse, Charles R. Cowen in 2003; and one grandson, Brendan Lawrence.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mary to the Salvation Army, 250 East Main Street, Newark, Ohio 43055.
