Mary Jane Barnes

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mary Jane Barnes, 84, of Newark, will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, with Pastor Jane Hablitzel officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Mary J. was born in Lewistown, PA on September 13, 1937 to the late Enoch and Elizabeth (Cavanaugh) Baker. She passed peacefully away on December 2, 2021 at the Laurels of Heath, with her youngest daughter by her side. Mary J. was a devoted homemaker to her family. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Newark and the Newark Eagles Lodge. She enjoyed playing bingo and loved spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her children, Kenneth (Tresa) Barnes, Sr., Teresa Barnes and Shirley (Pearl) Harvey; sisters, Donna Sunday and Shirley Baker; brother, Jay Baker; grandchildren, Kenneth Jr., Tina, Sandy, Josh, Dustin, Shawn and Brittany; numerous great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Barnes; sisters, Dorothy Baker and Ethel Wileman; brothers, Lloyd Cavanaugh, Robert Baker and John Baker; and two great grandchildren, Isabella and Kaleb. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mary J. to Generation Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
