Mary Lou Chopin, age 63, of Newark, passed away at her home on November 10, 2015.Mary Lou enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Tarik Verasso, who was the light of her life. They were together most weekends and she enjoyed teaching him to cook. They loved to cook together and watch Food Network. Tarik has recipes of his grandmother's that he cherishes and makes exactly as she taught him. He taught her how to play video games and they would often play together. She loved all genres of music and liked to play the oldies for him, classic rock and 80s pop, and he would keep her up to speed on the new stuff. She was lighthearted and silly and articulate and smart. She loved to read and instilled that in her children, who are avid readers as a result. She loved fiction mostly and always had a book she was into with another one lined up. She enjoyed word search puzzles and anything related to Batman or Harry Potter. She loved angels and collected them in all shapes and sizes for years. She always had perfectly manicured, long nails it was her thing. Most recently she belonged to the Moundbuilders Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she was baptized 5 months ago. She is survived by daughters, Wende Chopin and Mandie Chopin; dear grandson, Tarik Verasso; brother, David (Phyllis) Lumpkin; niece, Julie Lumpkin; and her Siberian Pomeranian, Bandit, whom she adored.A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
