Mary Elizabeth Winegardner

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mary Elizabeth Winegardner, age 92, of Thornville, will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, at Grace Lutheran Church, Thornville, with Pastor Tom Jacobson officiating. Burial will take place in Zion Ridge Cemetery.

Friends may call from 12-1 p.m. prior to the service at the church, 65 East Columbus Street in Thornville.

Mary was born August 13, 1930 in Jonesboro, Indiana to the late Oral Glenn and Nanny Marie (Whybrew) Elkins. She passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio).

Mary was a member of Grace Lutheran Church since 1957 where she was a member of the Women’s Circle and helped cook for church luncheons. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed cooking, canning, baking, and sewing. Her family especially loved her bean salad and cottage cheese salad but related that everything she made was delicious.

She is survived by four children, Ronald (Donna) Winegardner of Heath, Linda (Barry) Moore of Thornville, Jeannie (Jeff) Vance of Glenford, and Terry Winegardner of Thornville; grandchildren, James Fox, Jessica Moore, Sarah (Brandon) Large, Melissa (Nick) Bryner, Danielle (Walter) Williams, Kayla (Zachary) Kyle, and Ryan (Emily) Vance; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Karsen and Camren Large, Samuel and Grace Bryner, and Oaklen Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Maynard D. Winegardner, whom she married on October 27, 1957 and who passed away on April 28, 2017; three brothers, Guy, Bill, and Tom Elkins; and sister, Martha Snow.
