Matthew Lee Terry, age 33, of Heath, passed away unexpectedly on May 12, 2021 at Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia, while working out of state.
Matthew was born June 1, 1987 in Bellefontaine, Ohio. He was employed with Cleary Building in building construction. Matthew enjoyed fishing, camping, mushroom hunting, country music, and working on cars. He was meticulous with landscaping and lawncare and enjoyed doing yardwork for others. Matt had a love for life. He was always cracking jokes and you will never find a better jokester. Whenever he walked into a room he brightened everyone’s day. He was a great friend and would give you the shirt off his back.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Cynthia Kay (Peck) and Donald W. Newell, Jr. of Newark; children, Madyson Nicole Terry of Newark and Asher Grant Terry of Heath; fiancée, Misty Mae Asher of Heath; step-children, Bradley Asher and Bailey Clapper; brother, Brandon Jeffrey (Dawn) Mathews of Reynoldsburg; sisters, Amber Marie (Ajay) Barber of Newark and Natia Kaye (Scotty) Simpson of Waco, Kentucky; step-brothers, Shawn Matthew Newell and Seth Lee Newell, both of Newark; step-sisters, Courtney Mae Newell of Heath and Brooklyn Dawn Newell (Leonardo Chapa Resendiz) of Newark; maternal grandparents, Gerald Raymond Peck of Heath and Donna June Peck of Newark; step-grandmother, Patricia Newell of Newark; step-grandfather, Daniel Chancey of Columbus; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Gary Lee Terry; paternal grandparents, Barbara Chancey, and Herbert Terry; step-brother, Donald W. Newell III; step-grandfather, Donald W. Newell, Sr.; and niece, Camilla Elaine Chapa Resendiz.
Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street in Newark.
