Matthias Quinn Young

March 31, 2002 – September 5, 2023

Beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin. Student at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music in Viola Performance and Music Composition, as well as President of the CCM Student Tribunal, and member of Antigone String Quartet and Quintango.

Matthias performed with Newark-Granville Youth Symphony, Ohio All-State Orchestra, and Musica Le Mans. Graduating Granville High School in 2020, he had been involved in orchestra, chorus, tennis, cross-country, archery, and Spanish Honor Society. He was an exceptional musician on viola, violin, piano, organ, mandolin, and steel pan. Cross-country and marathon runner; lover of nature, cooking, and world cultures. Matthias devoted his time and talents to Licking Memorial Hospital, St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newark, Ohio, and Edge House campus ministry.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Young.

Matthias is survived by his parents, Jerry Young and Mandy John; his sister, Ella; his grandparents, Marybeth Young and Charles and Mary Jane John; aunts and uncles, Eileen and Dennis McBride, Jim Young and Melissa Chatfield, Victor John, and Dave Temple; cousins, Amy and Zoe McBride; and many others.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 67 North Fifth Street in Newark with Rev. Martin P. Gehring officiating.
