Max William Souders

May 12, 1947 — January 9, 2025

Max William Souders, 77, of Buckeye Lake, passed away at Fairfield Medical Center with his family by his side on January 9, 2025. He was born in Lancaster, Ohio on May 12, 1947, to the late Paul and Betty Souders. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Karen Souders; siblings, Dave “Jake” Souders and Sheila (Kamal) Kassouf; children, Travis (Jill) Souders, Staci (Steve) Knisley, Tad “TJ” (Chriss) Bolon, Devin (Joy) Bolon; grandchildren, Jacob (Taylor) Hardwick, Kayla and Seth Knisley, Max and Trent Souders, Haley and Ethan Bolon, Patience and Hope Hodgeson; great grandchildren, Jaxen, Logan, and Everly Ann; best friend of many years, Randy Friend, and many other wonderful friends. Max was preceded in death by his parents; Paul and Betty Souders and brother, Paul “Ed” Souders, Jr. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1965, attended the Ohio Barber College, and served in the U.S. Army from June 27,1966 to June 26, 1969, and proudly served in the Vietnam War. Upon leaving the armed services, he worked at Anchor Hocking and the family bar Strat’s AKA John’s Place. He then went on to work in Hebron, OH at Sunfield, retiring in 2007. Once retired, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends in Lancaster and Buckeye Lake. He was a committed member of the Fraternal order of Eagles 2801, VFW Post 1516, Buckeye Lake Moose 2434, and Amvets Post 51. For years, he would host Barber Parties on Saturday’s, where his friends would gather for haircuts, drinks, and to share stories. Max enjoyed watching sports and loved the OSU Buckeyes and Washington “Red Skins.” He also enjoyed fishing and went on many fishing trips over the years with family and friends. He played baseball in his younger years and often tried his hand at golf. Max requested no services be held, but rather a Celebration of Life at the VFW Post 1516 to be scheduled in the Spring. He wanted his friends and family to enjoy a cold Coors Lite and share memories of him. He would offer his last words to say, “Do not cry of my passing, be glad you knew me, Junior.” In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his honor at any VFW post. The Thornville chapel of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Max and his family.
