A funeral service celebrating the life of Maxine E. Gause, 100, of Newark, will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Clifford Mason as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Irville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, two hours prior to the funeral service on Friday, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Maxine was born in St. Marys, Ohio on July 2, 1923 to the late Lawrence and Lula (Miller) Fisher. She left this earth peacefully and entered her eternal home, while surrounded by her loving family, at her residence on July 29, 2023. Maxine was a devoted homemaker to her family. She enjoyed bowling, ceramics, traveling, and feeding birds and squirrels. She also enjoyed listening to Alan Jackson and Elvis, but most importantly, was the time she spent with her loving family and friends. Survivors include her loving children, Gloria J. (Larry) Longfellow, Robert E. (Angie Houston) Schellenbarg, Leroy (Connie) Gause, Donald L. “Duck” (Tina Nichols) Gause, Julie A. Neldon and Rose (Clifford) Mason; 23 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Schellenbarg; second husband, Chester D. Gause; son, Clarence W. Schellenbarg; sisters, R. Naomi Longsworth, Betty Hague and her twin sister, Pauline Fisher; and brother, Daniel “Jr.” Fisher. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Maxine to Hospice of Central Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Hospice of Central Ohio, especially Courtney and Brook, along with Home Instead Care Professionals, especially Candy, Nicole and Dreama, for all of their love, care and support that was provided to Maxine.
