A funeral service celebrating the life of Maynard D. Winegardner, age 83, of Thornville, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church, 65 East Columbus Street in Thornville with Pastor Orrey McFarland officiating. Burial will take place in Zion Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, at the Thornville home of Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service, 56 South Main Street in Thornville, and also 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Maynard was born November 18, 1933 in Thornville, Ohio to the late Ralph and Eldred (Fisher) Winegardner. He passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 at his home. Maynard was a 1953 graduate of Thornville High School. He was employed with Thorn Township for several years. He retired from the Roper Corp. after 15 years and from Diamond Power after 19 years of service. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Thornville. He enjoyed working on the farm, tractors, woodworking, gardening and spending time with family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary E. (Elkins) Winegardner, whom he married October 27, 1957; and by four children, Ronald (Donna) Winegardner of Heath, Linda (Barry) Moore of Thornville, Jeannie (Jeff) Vance of Glenford and Terry Winegardner of the home; grandchildren, James Fox, Jessica Skinner, Sarah (Brandon) Large, Melissa (Nick) Bryner, Danielle (Walter) Williams, Kayla (Zachary) Kyle and Ryan Vance; two great-grandsons, Brayden and Karsen Large and twin great-grandson and great-granddaughter on the way. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Vern, Owen, Lowell and Donovan Winegardner; and a sister, Marlene Pierpont.
