A funeral service celebrating the life of Melvin A. “John” Hill, 77, of Thornville, will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Thornville chapel of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, with Pastor Cynthia K. Cross officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. John was born in Middle Fork of Blue Creek, WV on November 3, 1940 to the late John Leslie and Mable Isabella (Martin) Hill. He went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 1, 2018, while surrounded by his loving family. He was a faithful member of Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ in Amsterdam, Ohio for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with family. He spent most of his life making sure everyone else had what they needed. He loved doing for other and was a very loving, kind, generous person, and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janet Hill, whom he married June 30, 1960; three children, Lisa (Kevin) Gardner of Somerset, Sheila Hill of Thornville, and Eric (Amy) Hill of Thornville; eight grandchildren, Brianna (Dave) Mosser, Brea Sulfridge, Brittaney Roecke, Ryan Cremeans, Meleigha, Makell, Mason, and Makennah Hill; one great grandchild, Sylvania Sulfridge; one sister, Janet Huddleston, TN; two loving sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie; and sister, Susie. Friends may call at the funeral home, 56 S. Main Street, Thornville, on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of John to the Perry County Cancer Alliance.
