A funeral service celebrating the life of Melvin Jay Lane, 80, of Newark, will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, with Pastor Dan Hamilton officiating. Friends may call on hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Thursday, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Melvin was born in Richwood, Ohio on July 27, 1937 to the late Delbert H. and Helen C. (Forrider) Lane. He passed away at Arlington Care Center on July 8, 2018. Prior to retirement, he worked for Superior Building Services and Croton Egg Farm for many years. He was a member of the Newark Eagles Lodge, Heath Eagles Lodge and Newark Moose Lodge. He enjoyed WWE Wrestling, listening to bluegrass music and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends. Survivors include his children, Penni (Mike) Huff, Neva Lane, William (Amanda) Lane, Paul (Bernice) Lane, Tracey Lane and Tonya (Keith) Williams; siblings, Lloyd (Eileen) Lane, Irene Webb and Ernest Lane; 17 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Nancy (Calkins) Lane; brothers, Frank, Bernard and Charles Lane; and sisters, Jenny Lane and Marie Carper.
