A funeral service celebrating the life of Michael Everett, Sr., age 69, of Newark, will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, with Pastor Mark Hartsough officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery. Born in Modesto California, Michael Everett Sr became the chosen son of Lester and Ethel Everett by adoption into a loving home and was raised in Reno Nevada. He spoke of Reno with love, and reminisced over raising his donkey, walking to school uphill both ways, of the love and support of his mother and father. He met the love of his life Susan Ann Nichols, in San Diego CA one chance evening outside her apartment. It may not have been love at first sight but it was a love that grew with unbreakable foundation into a life well lived. His greatest joys in life were his family, music and good food. Cowboy Mike was a nick name that followed him throughout his life. The sound of keys rhythmically bouncing to his steps preceded him anywhere he went. He was always surrounded by music, playing Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline, George Jones, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton on his vinyl turn table, with custom speakers that shook the roof. Weekends of barbecue were pronounced with his iconic yell of “fire in the hole” as he lit the charcoal bricks, the smoke drafted around the neighborhood like a signal for the neighborhood to join in the revelry. He loved to feed people as much in spirit as in body and was generous with his giving. From San Diego, CA to Tucson, AZ to Newark, OH Michael Allen Everett Sr. loved and lived to the fullest extent. When he wasn’t working as a service clerk or maintenance man, playing records, or planning the next great feast, he was fishing. The casting of the rod with his six pack of Natural Light and little dog Penny by his side brought him peace and comfort. In his golden years he loved to watch the Weather channel, sitting back on the couch petting his cat Arthur, and reminiscing over the life he lived well and loving the family he founded. And with his last breathe he loved. He is survived by his loving wife Susan Ann (Nichols) Everett, his brother Randall Everett and sister in law Delores Everett, his sister Patricia Everett-Bishop his daughters Jennifer Sharper, son in law Benjamin Sharper, daughter Heather Bodle, son in law Mathew Bodle his four grandchildren Christopher Bartlett, Briana Ward, Dylan Ward, and Emma Ward, his nieces Jeanie Smith and Sheila Marie Bishop-Hearon. He is preceded by his mother and father Lester and Ethel Everett, his son Michael Everett Jr and his grand-daughter Ashley Bartlett. Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for Michael and his family.
