Michael (Mike) Nicely passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, November 25th, just short of his 75th birthday. Mike was born in rural Virginia, where his love of hunting and the great outdoors began. He was an avid archer and bowhunter for 65 years. Mike loved to share his love of the outdoors with others, and taught archery and hunting to many friends throughout his lifetime. He found his greatest contentment in the woods, whether at his own farm or on his trips to Africa, Canada, and all across the U.S. Mike chose to live a simple life on his beloved farm to be close to his parents, and welcoming his son and his family to live on the farm in recent years. Mike was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served as a military policeman during the Vietnam war. He retired from The Coca-Cola Company in 2005 after 33 years of service, where he was known for his antics and playing tricks on his friends. Mike maintained many lifelong friendships of 40-50+ years. Mike is preceded in death by his parents Clarence (Bo) and Christine Nicely, brother Ricky and sister Teresa, and sisters-in-law Sandy Ryan and Susan Ryan. Mike is survived by his wife Kathy of 30 years, daughter Monica (Jim) Breidecker, son Josh (Michelle) Nicely, grandson Evan, granddaughters Falon, Sydney, Riley & Skylar, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to acknowledge the support provided to Mike and his family by the Department of Veteran Affairs and Hospice of Central Ohio. Donations in Mike’s memory may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America at PVA.org or to Hospice of Central Ohio (Newark location). The Nicely’s invite family and friends to honor Mike’s life on Sunday, December 1st from, 12-3pm at Vinberige Vineyards, 5400 St. Rt. 204, Glenford, Ohio 43739.
