Michael John Rooney

A private graveside service for Michael John Rooney, age 75, of Hebron, will take place at Licking Cemetery with Clifford Mason as celebrant. Military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Michael was born June 21, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Charles Terrence and Mary Jane (Hiner) Rooney. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Altercare of Thornville after a long battle with cancer.

Mike was employed with DCSC, DFAS, and retired from DLA as a telecommunications manager. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Mike was a member of the Marine Corps League Detachment #602 and the Hebron American Legion Post #285. He was also a member of NARFE #310 and the NRA. Mike enjoyed fly fishing with friends, rebuilding model railroads and collecting trains, boating, and watching NASCAR and old war and Western movies. He was a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sylvia (Pappas) Rooney, whom he married October 21, 1972; two daughters, Michelle Rooney of Heath and Teri Thorp of Thornville; grandchildren, Lashelle Thorp and Blaydan Thorp; brother-in-law, James Pappas of Canal Winchester; and sister-in-law, Cookie Jackson.
