Mildred M. Brown

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mildred M. Brown, age 99, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Pastor Rusty Foley officiating. Burial will take place in Newark Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.Mildred was born October 23, 1916 in Warwood, West Virginia to the late George W. and Laura Mabel (Stiles) Hobbs. She passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Inn at SharonBrooke.Mildred had been employed at the Newark Air Force Base for many years and was a member of the Neal Avenue United Methodist Church since 1962. She enjoyed all kinds of needlework including crocheting, knitting and sewing. She also loved to tend to her flower gardens.She is survived by a son, Richard Brown of Staunton, Virginia; daughter, Carol L. (Clement) Roberts of Newark; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brothers, George Hobbs of Troy and Arthur Hobbs of Edgewater, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Brown; a daughter, Judith Washburn; and a sister, Margaret Spain.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for Mildred and her family.
