Myrtle Louise Vannoy

A funeral service celebrating the life of Myrtle Louise Vannoy, age 93, of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home at 179 Granville St. in Newark, OH with Pastor John Ault officiating. Friends may call from 11 AM until 1 PM prior to the funeral service, and burial will immediately follow the service at Wilson Cemetery.

Myrtle was born October 4, 1929 in Utica, Ohio to the late Ira Lewis Cochran and Hazel Dell (Simpson) Cochran. She passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Tuscany Gardens in Pataskala.

Myrtle graduated from Newark High School in 1950.  During high school, Myrtle met the love of her life John Vannoy at an ice cream shop where she worked, and they were married on November 15, 1950. The newlyweds headed south to Columbia, SC where John served in the US Army, and Myrtle worked in a bank.  Following John’s military service, the couple returned to Ohio to be closer to family, and had five children. Myrtle was employed for many years as a bookkeeper at Pounds Flowers in Newark and also helped with other tasks in the flower shop. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed family activities. She was known for making wonderful pies, and for hosting large gatherings for her growing family.

She is survived by five children, Kristal (John) Smart of Pickerington, John Vannoy (Mindy Keelin) of Newark, Valerie Vannoy (Paul Kelley) of Newark, Jeff (Lisa) Vannoy of New Albany, and Suzanne (Eric) Black of Westerville; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Georgianna Baker of Newark; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, John F. Vannoy, who passed away on July 13, 2022, and by seven of her siblings.
