Nancy P. West

November 29, 1926 — July 3, 2014

Nancy P. West, age 87, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2014 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio). Nancy was born November 30, 1926 in Beattyville, Kentucky to the late W.D. and Pearl D. (Eckman) Lucas. From humble beginnings in the Kentucky hills, Nancy lived a full life that was totally dedicated to her family. Nancy met and married John W. West in San Francisco July 28, 1945. Eventually she and John moved to Dayton, Ohio where they began raising a family. She and John moved to Newark, Ohio for the opening of the Newark Air Force Station in 1962 and stayed for the remainder of their lives. Nancy was a stay at home mom and homemaker her entire life, raising her children was both her passion and her life. She was a devoted wife and made friends easily and throughout her life. She was an active member of the Licking County chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Licking County Ostomy Club helping many new members deal with lives made more difficult by health issues; she was a tireless worker for that cause. When she was in good health, Nancy enjoyed participating in Red Hat Society events. She enjoyed collecting antiques and growing flowers. She took great pleasure in sharing her many perennials with family and friends. Nancy is survived by three children, Louanne Knack (Dave Douglas), Phil (Sue) West and Jeff (Debra) West; grandchildren, Tyler Knack, Barry Knack, Jennifer West Cullum, Julian Waldron, Jason Miller, and Lindsay Wahl; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry (Sharon) Lucas of Sevierville, Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, John W. West, on April 6, 2014; three brothers, Harry B. Lucas, Elwood E. Lucas and William D. Lucas, Jr.; and son-in-law Dale E. Knack. There will be no calling hours and the family is planning a private Celebration of Life at a later date.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio (Attn. Selma Markowitz Care Center), P.O. Box 430, Newark OH 43058 or to the American Cancer Society, 5555 Frantz Road, Dublin, OH 43017. Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, is honored to care for the West family.
