A funeral service celebrating the life of Naomi Pearl Pierce, age 87, of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. Burial will take place in Newark Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Pearl was born May 2, 1927 in Morgan County, Ohio to the late Elmer and Sylvia (Roberts) Shaner. She passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at her home. Pearl was a 1945 graduate of Homer Union High School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed doing needlepoint, quilting, sewing, tending her flowers and doing jigsaw and word puzzles. She is survived by a daughter, Diana (Gary) Korbel of Grove City; sons, Jerry (Carole) Pierce and Karl (Karen) Pierce, all of Newark; granddaughters, Ashley (Matt) Canfield of Newark and Lauren Nicole Pierce of New Albany; seven step-grandchildren; many step-great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Smith of Reynoldsburg; brothers, David Shaner of McConnelsville and Mark (Mary) Shaner of Glouster; brother-in-law, Myron McCall of Bishopville; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Franklin Pierce, on October 22, 1993; and by her siblings, Audrey Steffy, Lawrence Shaner, Lowell Shaner, Rose Smith, Betty McCall and Ivan Shaner.
