A funeral service celebrating the life of Nina Lee Strohl, age 83, of Thornville, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street in Newark.
Nina was born November 27, 1938 in Canton, Ohio to the late Charles and Lela (Johnson) Shackle. She passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Licking Memorial Hospital.
Nina, who was known as “Memaw” by everyone who knew her, was formerly employed at Indian Mound Mall in cleaning and had also been a STNA at Pine Kirk Nursing Home in Kirkersville. She enjoyed going out to eat, going to movies, reading, and babysitting and playing with her grandchildren. She loved cats, especially Oliver.
She is survived by three children, Debbie (Larry) Meade of Newark, Jeff Strohl of Thornville and Rich (Dianna) Strohl of Heath; step-son, Dan (Ginny) Strohl of Canton; grandchildren, Jennifer, Mindy, Kelly, Brianna, Sevannah and Matthew; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Linda (Dave) Riffle of Canton; brothers, Chuck (Kay) Shackle of Galion and Ronnie (Kathy) Shackle of Canton; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Strohl, on January 20, 1995; two sons, Gary Strohl and Mark Strohl; grandson, R.J.; sister, Shirley Slutz; and brother, Bill Shackle.
