A service celebrating the life of Norma Jean Spitler, age 88, of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 701 Linnville Road, Heath, with Pastor Tom Hughes officiating. Jean, as everyone knew her, was born May 8, 1926 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Charles and Edith (Robinson) Moore. She passed away on Monday, December 15, 2014 at Kindred Transitional Care in Newark after a brief illness.Jean married James K. Spitler in 1944. They lived in Millersport and then Newark for their 70 years of marriage. They had four children Sondra Whitt (deceased), Cynthia Miller of Newark, Jamie Hise of Apopka, Florida and David Spitler of Newark. She was a proud and loving grandmother of eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.Jean was a faithful member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Heath. She was involved in community service for twenty years and enjoyed crocheting and gardening in her later years.In addition to her parents and daughter, she was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Edna, Miriam and Ruth; and brother, Jim.In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jeans memory may be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Community Service Center, 122 East Main Street, Newark, OH 43055 or to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, PO Box 430, Newark, OH 43058.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for the Spitler family.
