A funeral service, celebrating the life of Opal J. Long, 80, of Pataskala, will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017, in the chapel of the Kirkersville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, with her son-in-law Robert Fry as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Pataskala Cemetery. Opal died early Wednesday, May 3, 2017 in Westerville, following an extended illness. She was born in Columbus, on March 6, 1937, the daughter of the late Chester and Opal (Beard) Harris. She was retired from the F & R Lazarus Co. She loved sewing, crocheting and teaching jazzercise classes. A devout Christian, she played the organ for several churches. Opal loved working in the flower gardens around her house. She is survived by her loving family: her husband Darwin Long, whom she married on her birthday, March 6, in 1954; her children Debra (David) Fry, Kathy (Robert) Fry, Michael (Dawn) Long and Timothy (Lori) Long; her sister Mildred (David) Demos; grandchildren Aaron (Jessica) Fry, Andrew (Tracie) Fry, Amy (Eric) Lloyd, Michael (Margaret) Fry, Joshua (Brittany) Long, Alissa (Ted) Brooks, Jennifer (Joshua) Ungemach,, Kelston (Tyler) Woolard, Kaleb Long, Kassidy Long; and her 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by a grandchild Aubrey Long. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, 285 East Main Street in Kirkersville, on Friday, May 5, 2017, from 5-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Mount Carmel Hospice.
